Functional & Specialized Testing

Cutting-edge diagnostics to uncover underlying imbalances and guide precision care.

Why Advanced Testing?

Standard labs tell us what’s wrong in a snapshot. Functional labs dig deeper — to see why symptoms arise, reveal hidden stressors, and guide truly personalized protocols. We use these tools judiciously, only when clinically needed.

Advanced functional lab testing at RootHealthMD

Our Test Menu

Targeted diagnostics selected based on your unique clinical picture.

IgG Food Sensitivity Panel

Identifies delayed food reactivity patterns that standard allergy tests miss. Results guide targeted elimination diets for symptom relief.

FoodZoomer / Comprehensive Food Reactivity

A broader panel that goes beyond IgG — evaluating multiple reactivity pathways for deeper insight into food-driven inflammation.

Urine Organic Acids Test

A window into cellular metabolism, detox pathways, nutrient status, and gut microbe metabolites — all from a single urine sample.

Environmental Toxins & Mycotoxin Testing

Screens for mold toxins, pesticide residues, heavy metals, and chemical exposures that silently burden your body’s detox systems.

*

Advanced Lipids & Inflammatory Markers

Lipoprotein subclasses, oxidized LDL, hs-CRP, and other markers that reveal true cardiovascular risk beyond standard cholesterol panels.

*

Advanced Thyroid & Hormone Panels

Reverse T3, TSH, Free T3/T4, thyroid antibodies, and hormone metabolites — a complete picture conventional panels often leave out.

Other Specialty Tests

Micronutrient panels, GI mapping, metabolomic arrays, and detox pathway assessments — ordered when your case calls for deeper exploration.

Many advanced tests are not covered by insurance. They are offered as cash services or may be included in your Elite membership tier. We’ll transparently discuss costs before ordering any test.

Items marked with * may not be covered by insurance. Standard labs (Quest, LabCorp) are billed to insurance when possible. Functional labs are cash-based with transparent, upfront pricing.

When Is Testing Appropriate?

Persistent symptoms unexplained by standard labs
Plateaus in progress despite following a care plan
Complex multi-system complaints requiring deeper analysis

Frequently Asked Questions

Standard labs drawn through Quest or LabCorp are billed to your insurance as usual. Functional and specialty tests are typically cash-based since most insurers do not cover them. We always review pricing before placing any order so there are no surprises.
Retesting timelines depend on the specific marker and your treatment plan. Generally, we recommend retesting 3–6 months after starting a protocol to measure progress. Dr. Reddy will advise on the ideal window for your situation.
The vast majority of our functional tests use urine, saliva, or a simple finger-prick blood spot — all non-invasive and safe. Some panels require a standard blood draw at a lab facility. There are no significant risks involved.
Preparation varies by test. Some require fasting, while others ask you to avoid certain supplements or foods for a set period beforehand. We provide detailed written instructions with every kit and are available to answer questions before collection day.
Functional ranges are often tighter than conventional reference ranges, so a finding outside optimal range does not always mean disease. It can reveal early trends or subclinical imbalances worth addressing now — before symptoms appear. Dr. Reddy will walk you through every result in context.
All functional tests are ordered through a clinical consultation so we can select the most relevant panel for your needs. This ensures no unnecessary testing and that results are properly interpreted in the context of your health story.
